BOLLYWOOD: Bollywood super star Shahrukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, 23, is the latest celebrity or rather celebrity child to go to jail.
Aryan was arrested along with seven others during a raid on a cruise ship off Mumbai coast on Saturday night by the Narcotics Control Bureau of India.
Officers of the NCB boarded the ship after getting a tip-off that drugs would be used by party-goers during the cruise from Mumbai to Goa.
The officers nabbed Aryan Khan and others as soon as a rave party started and seized cocaine, mephedrone and ecstasy.
Apart from Aryan Khan, seven others arrested has been named as — Munmun Dhamecha, Nupur Sarika, Ismeet Singh, Mohak Jaswal, Vikrant Chhoker, Gomit Chopra and Arbaaz Merchant.
Aryan Khan has joined the list of celebrities who went to jail for various reasons. Here are these celebrities.
1. SALMAN KHAN: Bollywood super star Salman Khan was given a five-year jail term in the 2002 hit-and-run case. He also spent some time in jail in 2007 for hunting black buck during the shooting of ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ in Rajasthan in the 1990s.
2. ANKIT TIWARI: Playback singer Ankit Tiwari joined the list of Bollywood celebrities who went to jail in 2014. The Aashiqui 2 singer was arrested on May 8 for allegedly raping a female friend.
3. INDER KUMAR: IN May 2014, the late actor Inder Kumar was arrested for allegedly raping his girlfriend in his Andheri apartment. The girlfriend, who was a model, told police that Inder Kumar called her to his apartment on the pretext of getting her roles in films, and then raped her for the next two nights.
4: SANJAY DUTT: Actor Sanjay Dutt was sent to Pune’s Yerwada jail for three and a half years after the Supreme Court in 2013 upheld his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.
The blasts, which were the brainchild of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and Pakistan’s ISI to avenge the Babri demolition, killed 257 people and injured over 700.
Sanjay was held for possessing an AK-56 rifle and a 9 mm pistol. The AK-56 was part of the consignment of weapons and explosives smuggled into India to cause the serial blasts. Here are the other Bollywood stars who went to jail:
5 JOHN ABRAHAM: John Abraham also spent some time in jail after he was sentenced for rash and negligent driving and hitting two people with his bike in 2006.
6: SHINEY AHUJA: Actor Shiney Ahuja spent time in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail for allegedly raping his 20-year-old domestic servant.
7. FARDEEN KHAN: The actor did time after he was caught buying drugs. He got bail after five days.
8. SONALI BENDRE: Sonali was arrested posing ‘inappropriately’ for a magazine cover, thus hurting the religious sentiments of some people. She too got quick bail.
9: MONICA BEDI: Monica Bedi, the former girlfriend of underworld don Abu Salem, did jail for forgery after she and Salem were arrested in Portugal.
10. SAIF ALI KHAN: Saif also saw the inside of jail for hitting a person at Taj Hotel in Mumbai when he was out with Kareena and Malaika Arora for an evening.
11: AKSHAY KUMAR: Unbuttoning of his trousers by his wife Twinkle publicly at the Lakme Fashion Week landed Akshay in jail for a brief while.
12: SUNIEL SHETTY: Suniel Shetty too was hauled up in a cheque dishonour case when he was a director of Hyundai Telecom Limited.
