5 best professions for immigration to Canada

MISSISSAUGA: What kind of immigrants will succeed in Canada and how quickly depends on your profession and skills.

There are some professions which are in big demand and people in those professions will have no difficult in succeeding in Canada.

According to respected and well-known immigration consultant Sheetal Jhuti, who runs her iCan Immigration from Mississauga in the Toronto suburbs, software programming and gaming professionals are in a big demand in Canada.

“In fact, gaming is predicted to become the fastest growing profession. So if you have gaming development skills, you shouldn’t even think twice about immigration to Canada,’’ says Sheetal.

Another kind of professionals who are a big demand are information systems analysts – those who analyze business of companies. Further, there is no licensing requirement for new immigrants in this profession, she says.

“Thirdly, cooks are in perpetual demand. And also there is always a shortage of carpenters and framers, particularly in Saskatchewan and Ontario. Immigrants with skills in these areas will have no shortage of jobs. Moreover, cooks, carpenters and framers require no licence or certification,’’ says Sheetal who handles immigration files of clients mostly from the countries which are the major source of immigration to Canada.

“Fourthly, there are huge opportunities for operators of heavy equipment such as cranes and bulldozers in the construction industry. Then there is always a shortage of long-haul drivers. So if you have skills in these two areas, you will do well in Canada,’’ she suggests.

The fifth profession which is always facing a big shortage of people is caregivers – both live-in and live out.

“Caregivers are already in a big demand and this demand will keep increasing because Canada is an aging nation. Canadians are increasingly depending on caregivers not only to look after the aged people, but also their children when both husband and wife are working,’’ according to Sheetal.

Do people always need an immigration consultant to handle their files? “Well, not necessarily. But ours is like any other professional service. We have seen cases where immigration applications are returned for minor lapses,’’ says Sheetal.

When you send your application for immigration to Canada, hiring the services of a qualified immigration consultant is good for your peace of mind.

Oil and commodity prices are at record lows and the Canadian dollar at the lowest in 11 years. Frankly, if you are doing well in India, why do you want to migrate at this age? • It depends on your age and your readiness to update your skills. You will have to go through an agonising period of change which won’t be easy. If you are doing well in KSA, why do you want to migrate to Canada? Why not keep making money in KSA and send your boys for education to Canada when they enter college? You as parents will have no problem in joining them. Honesty, Canada doesn’t have many quality and high-paying jobs. Because Canada is an oil and resourced-based economy, things are not looking good at this time.

    • Nursing is a regulated profession in Canada and you will need to meet the licensing requirements. Many nurses have come to Canada on a post graduate study program and simultaneously worked towards their licensing and permanent residency. Another option is to come here as a live-in or live out caregiver. Please send us your resume for a better assessment at sheetal@icaninc.ca . Thank you.

  28. Hi All,

I’m a chartered accountant in India and a b.com (H) graduate from Delhi university, working for an International Australian listed Bank for the past 3 years. I’ve approx. 7 years of experience in finance, accounts & taxation field. My would be is a BDS (Dentist). I’ve IELTS band 6.5 (AVG.). can you please suggest whether it would be worthy to migrate to Canada for both of us?

What are the relevant opportunity available for both of us? which province have demands in dental and finance profession?

    Thanks in Advance!!

    • There are tons of CAs from India. You have to take up local courses and you will do okay in finance. The same applies to your wife as dentistry is one of the best paying professions in North America. You can settle in Ontario or British Columbia. But all depends on your age and willing to endure initial hardships.

  29. Ma’m, I am Sumesh.lam working in international airport fire department in kerala. I am working as senior fire driver.l have experience in driving in heavy forgin vehicles.l have 40 years old.l am graduation in B A.I will do any type of job. May I get any opportunity in there.

  30. I am 27 (unmarried) and have done my Engg, post that I did my MBA from one of India’s best B-School. I just started working in one of the top consulting companies earning 25-30L per annum. I am otherwise well settled in one of the metros in India. I am seeing that these days there are many people migrating to Canada. I want to know whether it makes sense for me to migrate to Canada. I don’t wish to take up any additional education qualification (except for something minor like maybe french). I also know that by the time I apply and get my PR for canada say another 2 yrs I will be earning around 30-35L with my current job. Having worked hard to get one of the best qualifications in India I do not wish to do low level jobs even in the starting. Are there enough good high level opportunities in Canada for highly qualified immigrants? If you ask me what attracts me towards Canada is better amenities, cleanliness and less population.

  31. Hi moderator. We have in mind to immigrate to Canada based on my wife’s opportunity to move to the same branch of the international bank she is currently working in Dubai. So from this side we have at least something secure to start with. We are both bilingual (French and English). She is 36. I am 46 with a BA in English. We got 2 kids of 10 and 6. We are thinking of moving either to Toronto or Ottawa as we are looking for French-based education for the kids. What monthly income would be enough to support us ? Are there schools offering French curriculum? Would it be easy for me at my age to get something to live on?

  34. Good day,
I am a 33 years old Nigerian, married with a daughter. I hold a B.Sc in Accounting and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management . I am currently working as an Accountant with the Federal Government of Nigeria , with previous experience working as a banker.
I intend to immgrate to Canada with my family.
What is our career or job prospects?
My wife has a B.Sc in Business Management and currently jobless.
Thanks in anticipation to your response.

    • Are you based in Nigeria or Mountain View in California (which your IP address indicates)? There are definitely jobs in accounting and business management, but you will have to update your skills as per Canadian requirements. You can also start your own accountancy business which tons of immigrants do.

  43. If I have crossed 45 years of age is it feasible for me to migrate to Canada? I belong to hotel industry and have over 25 year of work experience

I am also a qualified chef and earlier migrated to Canada as a PR but returned after investing 4 youthful years of my PRIME life in
Vancouver. Although I am a strong believer in destiny, but as a general fact, I would not recommend moving to Canada at your age. I am also 48 at the moment and have a job offer from BC, but I have laid of my decision to move again because of a comfortable life and freedom in India. Following are some Pros and Cons which will help you make a wise decision depending upon what your preferences in life are :
      PROS :
      – Beautiful Landscape
      – Peace of mind / living
      – Secured family life / no or little crime
      – No worries for medicals and schooling
      – Organized, quiet but boring

      CONS :
      – Toooo lonely
      – No time to lay back, constant hard work (Unlike India)
      – Bad weather
      – Little or no family life at your age with grown up kids
      – Mostly indoor living will depress you sooner or later
      – Work, Work, Work and little play

As a matter of fact, I have no regrets moving back to India. I have a beautiful home, lots of family life and holidays every alternate month. A small business with no schedules and after all, that was the aim…… Mind you, I don’t make a lot of money as per Indian standards, but enjoy a relaxed life that you can never have under similar circumstances in Canada.

take your call…….. all the best !!!
