TORONTO: A young Indo-Canadian couple living in Brampton near here have hit the jackpot by winning nearly $18.8 million.

Jaspreet and her husband Gurbhej Sran, who migrated to Canada from India four years ago, won the Lotto 649 with a free-play ticket on March 22. This free-pass ticket won the couple  $18,799,377.90 jackpot from the March 22 LOTTO 6/49 draw.

Gurbhej is a truck driver and Jaspreet is studying to become an accountant.

Since the couple rarely play lottery, they went to the lottery rpize centre in Toronto to check if their ticket had won any prize.

Gurbhej said, “I had a feeling we should go to the store and check our ticket. The self-checker said ‘Big Winner, see retailer,’ so we thought maybe we’d won $10,000. We were so surprised to find out it was much, much more!”

The lucky couple welcomed their first baby just a week ago.

They said they want to buy a home first and bring their parents to Canada.

Gurbhej said he would buy his own truck and continue with trucking.

  16. I received your email. It would be a blessing for my family to receive this Grant. My husband has suffered many illnesses after a long drawn out surgery. This has left us in such a financial difficulty. He as well has lost his income and I work 2 part-time jobs trying to constantly catch up our debts. We have two wonderful children to whom also live with us and work part-time positions. I would use this money to pay off all my debts, buy us a vehicle that would not be continuously in the garage, and play it forward to some one else that is in need as well.

    probably won that money but somebody using up this information for another purpose and this is definitely scam. I would not trust ( how you get on this list)
