India celebrated its 69th Republic Day on January 26 by showing its military might. Also present were heads of 10 ASEAN countries who seemed to be impressed by their host’s military hardware.
It was on this day in 1950, India’s new Constitution was promulgated. All kings, princes and royals were replaced by people’s elected representatives. The January 26 parade is symbolic of that.
For the first time this year, Indian women in the country’s paramilitary forces displayed their daredevilry before thousands on Indians and foreigners on Rajpath in New Delhi.
