Malala Yousafzai, 17, the world’s youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner, has now a village named after her in her native Pakistan.
The village is in Rawalpindi district of Pakistan – not far from the capital Islamabad.
Tweeting a picture of the village board bearing the name Malala, Pakistani Social activist Baseer Ahmad said, “The village has been named ‘Malala’ near #Gujar Khan, Rawalpindi.’’
Malala, who was left struggling for her life after she was shot by the Taliban in October 2012 for fighting for the rights to education for girls, shared the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize with India’s Kailash Satyarathi.
She is currently a student at Oxford. Malala visited Pakistan recently after six years.
