Hindu-Muslim harmony witnessed on Diwali day as five Muslim brothers led the religious procession in Ayodhya by playing the roles of various characters connected to Lord Rama

News East West

NEW DELHI: Ayodhya is a flash point between the Hindus and Muslims because Hindus think their god Lord Rama was born at the spot where the 16th century Mughal ruler Babur deliberately built a mosque by destroying a temple.

The old mosque was destroyed by mobs in 1992 and since then a makeshift temple to Lord Rama exists at the spot. The matter is pending in courts.

During this Diwali on Thursday, some nice scenes of Hindu-Muslim harmony were witnessed between Hindus and Muslims. Diwali marks the return of Lord Rama to his kingdom Ayodhya after a 14-year banishment during which he killed demon king Ravana for kidnapping his wife Sita. People in Ayodhya celebrated Lord Rama’s return by lighting lamps.

Speaking of nice scenes of Hindu-Muslim harmony witnessed on Diwali day on October 19, first five Muslim brothers led the shobha yatra or religious procession in Ayodhya by playing the roles of various characters connected to Lord Rama.

The five brothers from Bandiki village in Rajasthan belong to the Behrupiya community. Their traditional profession can be translated as street theatre. They do this for a living.

Then some Muslim women reportedly performed public aarti (prayers) for Lord Rama on the eve of Diwali in Varanasi.

“Shri Ram is our ancestor. We can change our name and religion, but how we can change our ancestors? Singing in praise of Lord Rama not only bridges the gap between Hindus and Muslims, but also reflects the generosity of Islam,” Muslim woman leader Nazneen Ansari reportedly said at the event.

But this act by Muslim women earned them the ire of the Muslim clergy in India.

Darul Uloom Deoband, the most influential Muslim body of South Asia, on Saturday issued a fatwa against these women, saying that they don’t belong to ‘Muslim ulema’ because they worship other gods.

“If anyone worships any god except Allah they don’t remain Muslim ulema,” a report quoted a representative of Darul Uloom Deoband as saying.

Now what is wrong with this Muslim clergy? These Muslim women in question were not forced to perform this act. They were just respecting Hindus on their most sacred day of Diwali. These Muslim women didn’t convert to other faith.

These women showed fanatic mullahs how to respect other faiths.

As the surnames of most Muslims in the sub-continent show, it is a undeniable fact that forefathers of most of them were Hindus. The Muslim Bajwas – the clan of current Pakistan army chief – are converts from Hindus.

Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s forefathers were Gujarati Khoja Hindus. The ancestors of the Bhuttos were Hindu Rajputs from Rajasthan. The ancestors of Allama Iqbal were Kashmiri Pandits. The ancestors of Nawaj Sharif were Kashmiri Hindus. The list goes on.

The fanatic Muslim clergy is playing into the hands of the fanatic Hindu brigade. Stop this hatred.
