MONTREAL: Air Canada will resume its daily, non-stop Toronto-Delhi flights from October 1.

The flights were suspended after Pakistan closed its airspace in February after the Indian air strike against militants in Balakot in Pakistan.

This led to cost escalation as airlines had to undertake a detour to reach destinations in India, forcing many, including Air Canada, to cancel flights to India.

Pakistan announced last week to reopen its airspace.

In a statement, Air Canada vice president (network planning) Mark Galardo, said, “We are very pleased to resume our daily, non-stop Toronto-Delhi flights in time for Diwali celebrations, and with additional capacity going forward to meet expected demand. With our Delhi flights returning to normal together with our seasonal return to Mumbai for fall firmly demonstrating our long term commitment to this vibrant market, we look forward to operating our full schedule to India.”

The Toronto-Delhi flights will initially begin with Boeing 787 Dreamliners. From October 27, additional capacity will be added to this route with 400-seat Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, featuring Air Canada’s award-winning Signature Class, Premium Economy and Economy classes of service.

Air Canada will also operate its seasonal Toronto-Mumbai flights from October 27 until March 28, with Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.

Interestingly, Air India has also announced three weekly flights from September 27 to link Toronto with Amritsar via New Delhi.
