BRAMPTON: Three Indo-Canadian men – two from Brampton and one from Mississauga – have been arrested for assault and carjacking.

Jaideep Singh, 22, Rupinder Brar, 42, both of Brampton and Gurdip Singh, 28, of Mississauga have been arrested for assaulting a courier delivery driver and hijacking his vehicle in Brampton on December 30.

Police responded to a call from the victim reporting that his vehicle was stolen following an assault on him in the area of Emstead Court and Timberlane Drive just after 5 p.m. on that day.

The victim told the cops that he was delivering packages when he was accosted by a man and punched.

Following the assault, the man entered the victim’s vehicle and attempted to steal it. In an effort to prevent the theft, the victim grabbed onto the vehicle and was dragged almost 800 meters before losing his grip. The victim sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. He was treated at a local hospital and later released.

The stolen vehicle was located in Mississauga several hours later.

On Saturday, police identified and arrested the three Indo-Canadian men involved in the Brampton carjacking.

While Jaideep Singh has been charged with robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to comply with a release order, Gurdip Singh faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime and failing to comply with a release order.

Rupinder Brar has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime and breach of probation.
