TORONTO: The world could see the first-ever coronavirus vaccine as early as next week.

Russia’s Gamelei Center in Moscow may register the world’s first coronavirus vaccine on August 12, says RIA Novosti, quoting Russia’s deputy health minister Oleg Gridnev.

The news agency quotes the minister as saying that the registration of the first Covid vaccine developed “at the Gamelei Center will take place on August 12.”

Under the third and final trials of the vaccine which started at Moscow’s Sechenov University on June 18, 38 volunteers were subjected to tests. All of them reportedly developed immunity to the Coronavirus infection.

Moscow has already unveiled a nationwide mass vaccination program beginning in October at public expense.

According to the deputy health minister, medical workers and the elderly will be given priority for Corona immunization.
