In-camera trial of domestic violence case against rapper Honey Singh

NEW DELHI: Delhi Metropolitan Magistrate Tania Singhon Tuesday ordered for in-camera proceedings in the domestic violence case against Punjabi rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh.

In her 120-page domestic violence case filed in August, Honey’s wife Shalini Talwar has alleged that she has been ‘physically, mentally and emotionally’ abused by her husband over the last ten years. She has sought Rs 20 crore as compensation from him under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.Singer-rapper Hirdesh Singh alias Yo Yo Honey Singh is in big trouble.

Shalini says she was treated like a ‘farm animal’ and subjected to ‘casual sex’  and ‘physical abuse.’

She has sought Rs 20 crore in interim compensation. She has also demanded a rent of Rs 5 lakh per month for a fully furnished accommodation in Delhi and return of her dowry. 

The wife has even accused Honey Singh’s father of groping her.

Shalini says she has been physically assaulted by Singh for the past ten years and she has proof of acts of domestic abuse against her.

On September 2, the couple appeared in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tania Singh who allowed the wife to visit her matrimonial home on September 5 to gather her belongings.

The magistrate conducted an in-camera counselling of the couple, saying, “May God give us the strength to do justice to both parties.” 

Honey Singh was accompanied by his parents and lawyer Rebecca John who moved an application seeking an in-camera trial of the case.

The court directed Honey Singh not to contact his wife.
