Racist attack on Mississauga Hindu family

MISSISSAUGA: A 44-year-old man and his family were subjected to racist violence and assault while they were conducting a faith ceremony in the area of Barbertown Road and Mississauga Road in Mississauga on Saturday.

The victim family are said to be Hindu.

The incident happened at about 5.30 pm.

Peel Police said they are looking for two men who shouted derogatory and hateful remarks and assaulted the victim several times, including throwing rocks at the 44-year-old man.

The victim and his family retreated into their vehicle. As the victim drove away, stones were thrown at his car, causing damage to it.

The victim attended a local hospital for his injuries that were deemed non-life-threatening in nature. His wife and two young children did not suffer any physical injuries.

Police said the two suspects are 16 to 18 years of age with dark hair. One is white and the other is believed to be Asian.

“Hateful, deliberate acts such as this will not be tolerated and I can assure you that the appropriate resources are being allocated to identify those responsible,” Peel Police chief  Nishan Duraiappah said.
