MISSISSAUGA: Naim Akl, the 25-year-old son of a Mississauga restaurant owner, was shot dead on Saturday evening when a gunman barged in and started shooting at the staff..

The incident happened at Chicken Land restaurant in the area of the Collegeway and Glen Erin Drive in Mississauga at about 7.20 pm.

While the 56-year-old owner, his 44-year-old wife and their 22-years-old son survived the shooting, the owner’s another son Naim Akl, 25, was killed on the spot in the shooting.

A 58-year-old male employee was also injured in the shooting.

The injured were rushed to hospital and their condition is said to be stable.

In surveillance footage from a nearby pizza shop released by Peel Police, the suspect wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a surgical mask is seen outside the restaurant looking in, before the shooting.

Then he is seen walked out of the frame. It is at that moment he entered the restaurant and started shooting.

A few moments later, the suspect is seen fleeing from the restaurant.

At a media briefing on Sunday, Peel Police Const. Danny Marttini said the description of the suspect is “minimal and it is a little trickier to identify” him. But she hoped that someone who was in the area at the time and saw someone with that description, could help the police identify the suspect.

Const. Danny Marttini said police believe the shooting is an isolated incident.

“At this point we aren’t sure of the circumstances (of the shooting), but we do believe it is isolated…obviously we will be looking into every factor possible.”

Const. Danny Marttini said, “We want to make sure that we find the person that shot this family and that employee,”
