MUMBAI: There have been reports that my home was not mine to sell. I am attaching a copy of the share certificate with my mom’s name very clearly mentioned as owner in 1977 followed by my name in 1995.

Although my dad abandoned us for Parveen Babi in 1975, subsequently married Susan and then Nikki, our hearts and home have always been open to him. I offered to let him stay in my home when he came to India, an act of kindness I now regret.

It is mistakenly reported that he has paid me rent all these years. The sum total of his sporadic payments is equivalent only to Society dues over the years. Also, any renovations he made to the apartment were billed to me, and paid by me. I could have used the apartment to generate substantial income which I desperately needed as a single mother to two children, especially when I was starting life afresh post my divorce. With mounting costs it became impossible for me to support my dad and his girlfriend and girlfriend’s sister (who stayed at my place too) as well as my kids.

Pooja Bedi: `I offered to let him stay in my home when he came to India, an act of kindness I now regret.’

What began as an argument was fanned into a bonfire by Parveen for reasons best known to her. I do not wish for someone who bad mouths me and creates fights to stay in my home or eventually take it over. Papa is earning extremely well for himself and has moved into a beautiful new home with Parveen and her sister Suki and it’s in everyone’s interest to keep things dignified.

Planting articles that put me in an unflattering light only hurt my children, as they go to school and are subjected to their friends talking on the issue. Hence the need to put facts straight with proof such as this share certificate (of which Mirror has a copy). I hope that the matter ends here without any further mudslinging. It’s time to move on!  (Courtesy Mumbai Mirror)
