CHANDIGARH: Punjab Youth Congress president Brinder Singh Dhillon doesn’t want controversial Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala to be the party’s candidate from Mansa for the upcoming state assembly elections.

Moosewala, who was recently welcomed into the Congress Party by chief minister Charanjit Channi and Punjab Congress chief Navjot Sidhu, may be given the party ticket from Mansa.

Addressing a party rally organised by former Mansa District Youth Congress president Chuspinder Singh Chahal, state Youth Congress president Brinder Singh Dhillon criticised those party leaders who were backing Moosewala. Obviously, Dhillon was taking aim at Navjot Sidhu who is instrumental in bringing Moosewala into the party.

Dhillon said Chahal has been working for the Congress in Mansa for several years and he must given the ticket for the February assembly elections.

“I appeal the Congress screening committee not to consider fielding Moosewala as it would discourage party activists. Unlike Moosewala, Chahal has been associated with the party for several years,” Dhillon said.

But Moosewala says he is determined to contest from Mansa even if the Congress doesn’t give him the ticket.

“If the Congress brass does not give me the ticket, I will contest as an Independent from Mansa,” Moosewala said while addressing a public rally in Mansa.

He said, “People are spreading rumours that Moosewala is shifting to the Maur or Talwandi Sabo constituency. I want to make it clear that this will not happen. I will contest only from Mansa.”
