Pregnant woman dead as car splits into two after crashing into pole

TORONTO: A 22-year-old woman is dead and a 20-year-old man in serious condition when their car crashed into a pole, broke into two pieces and turned upside down in Etobicoke on Saturday night.

The victim was reportedly pregnant.

The accident took place in the area of The Queensway and Humber River at about 8.15 pm when the victim was driving her Acura TL sedan westbound.

The woman, who got trapped in the car, was rescued by emergency crews and rushed to a trauma centre. But she succumbed to her injuries.

The 20-year-old man, who suffered non-life threatening injuires, was rushed to hospital.
