MISSISSAUGA: Peel Police and city by-law officers on Sunday raided and broke up a party of 60 people being held in a Mississauga Airbnb rental unit in the area of Ninth Line and Deepwood Heights in violation of Covid restrictions, slapping $47,000 in fines on the hosts and party-goers.
According to police, when the cops showed up, many party-goers ran away. Police charged 27 of them, fining each one $880.
The two hosts of the party face at least $10,000 in fines.
The owner of the rental unit was not present at the party, attended by people mostly in their 20s.
Two of the guests were arrested and charged with obstruction when they failed to identify themselves.

Expressing her shock over the incident, Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie said she was “very disappointed” that people violated Covid restrictions.
The mayor said, “I want to thank the vast majority of Mississauga residents, businesses and faith-based groups who are following the rules and helping to reduce community spread.”
Airbnb said this unauthorized party was held without the owner’s knowledge and the company has delisted the property.
“Airbnb bans parties, and the reported behaviour is outrageous. We are in touch with Mississauga officials to offer our support and have deactivated the listing as we investigate further,” a company spokesperson was quoted as saying.
