Brampton Diwali fireworks training for vendors begins online this year because of Corona restrictions

BRAMPTON: As this year’s Diwali rolls around in the times of corona, the city of Brampton opened its online training process for those planning to sell fireworks for Diwali as well as New Year’s Eve.

Diwali will be celebrated on November 14 this year.

Brampton allows short-range fireworks (that fly less than 10 feet when lit) four times a year – Victoria Day, Canada Day, Diwali and New Year’s Eve.

The training is mandatory and completion of this course is compulsory before vendors can be licensed to sell. The training covers the types of fireworks allowed for sale, rules for storing, displaying and selling, customer ID requirements and safety guidelines for distribution to buyers.

For vendors with multiple locations, at least one operator from each location is required to complete the course.  Vendors must also note that the deadline to apply for fire inspection is noon on October 23.

Vendors can register by calling the Brampton Fire Prevention division at 905.874.2740 or emailing fire.prevention@brampton.ca and details of the course will be emailed to the applicant.

Because of corona restrictions, the training will be delivered in an online format in five easy steps:

  1. Submit payment for 2020 Fireworks Retailer course and apply for fire inspection
  2. Watch the Fireworks Retailer Training Video
  3. Complete the Fireworks Retailer Questionnaire
  4. Submit licence application and registration fee. Contact licensing@brampton.ca for details.
  5. Obtain the 2020 Fireworks Retailer Licence in person from City Hall. Appointment mandatory before visiting City Hall.
